INTRO “…
Photography has entered a new way in contemporary communication, and the current pandemic will perhaps accelerate this process. It is no longer just documentation and representation of truth, but also elaboration, evocation, art. ” Today photography is possible for everyone in an ever easier and faster way, even with a phone. The web and social media have contributed to making every single, every person, a user and, at the same time, an author of the photograph. If before the word was dominant over the image, today the latter goes hand in hand with verbal expression, breaking linguistic and social barriers. Just think of the now indispensable combination of emoticons and smart language to “give face” to our words and avoid misunderstandings. Not only that, we strive to imagine ever more effective ways to translate feelings, situations, desires into photography and so much has Instagram done in this sense that induces everyone to express themselves with a photograph. Let’s think of memes on social media, also a tool for social criticism, composed of a photo and a joke and capable of reaching virality phenomena on the web that become shared expressive models. The video presentation of the online CS of May 14 is available on the fb page of Photographers.it a

WHY
The set of emotions, evocations, suggestions and memories that photographs help us to represent, has now taken on an indisputable communicative value. It is in effect a language that is constantly growing and evolving. Photography professionals, who are used to expressing themselves and thinking in images, will be able to discover, to preserve in their imagination, an “iconographic universe” yet to be explored. And it is from this reflection that the “100 words x 100 photographers” project is born, from the basic idea that it is possible to create maps that guide us in the exploration of this hybrid linguistic universe, the result of the ever new contamination between Logos and Ikonos. The purpose of the “provocation” (word-stimulus) underlying the “100 words x 100 photographers” project is to stimulate the creation of possible or future communication maps. Maps that draw contemporaneity in its magmatic evolution. The photographs of the 100 photographers will be daughters of our time. The result will be a sort of trip to Giulio Verne where the images will tell one of the infinite stories possible for us “sailors”.
