Cionfrini’s work is difficult to pigeonhole into a particular movement or current; it is the expression of a highly personal style of photography.

 

The use of original materials and techniques is, in fact, a defining characteristic of the photographer. With his shots, we often find ourselves straddling reality and imagination.

 

His photographs are like a daydream, fascinating little stories where the boundaries between magic and the everyday dissolve.

 

This book, which I am pleased to present, brings this imaginative spirit to life, because it encompasses this entire universe imbued with magic and personalism, of which Ugo Maria Cionfrini is the custodian.

 

With a particular flair for the bizarre and a purist approach to photography, Cionfrini often positions himself on the edge of paradox.

 

Highly poetic and evocative, his visual language transcends the boundaries of the known and the prepackaged, positioning itself in an intermediate zone where the familiar forms of nature, figures, or a sunset transform into entirely different guises.

 

His photography shifts clouds, melts water, destabilizes and displaces the perception of reality. Its soul lies in movement, the unusual, and intuition.

 

Unexpected nighttime silhouettes, even the lights of a city, outline shapes clearly and distinctly, while at other times they blur into deliberately imperfect forms.

 

Cionfrini’s search for the “perfect imperfection” sweeps through the image with such speed that it even captures other visions, like a visual narrative from which he can draw with complete freedom.

 

References to other visual arts are not lacking; it’s no coincidence that he follows the models of ancient engraving, the most expressive and impactful black-and-white, or through a highly pictorial construction with the sfumato and abstract techniques.

 

However, the image is often clear and precise, detailing angles or more vivid and tactile colors, not of landscapes but of cities: Rome, Burano, Venice, always seen with the intention of capturing unusual angles that would otherwise go unnoticed, and which can only be seen if distracted and with one’s nose in the air.

 

It is with this refined narrative that this photographic project comes to life, the fruit of a careful yet casual eye, preserving all the charm of photography in every shot, without the aid of digital manipulation.
Ugo Maria Cionfrini lives and works in Rome, where he graduated from the Art School on Via Ripetta, starting at the age of 11 with his American Kodak to capture a world all his own.
With his performances, installations, and exhibitions, his name is well known in Rome and beyond… nevertheless, we wanted to give a new perspective to his work through this book, a prelude to an upcoming exhibition that will offer a 360-degree view…

Good evening, he always talks about it to almost everyone to whom he tells this anecdote of how he came to show his photographs to the general public.

After graduating from the Art School (he was certainly bewildered and unmotivated by the premature death of his great father when he was sixteen) he did not think about enrolling in the Academy (he would have liked to attend Architecture, as per the projects between himself and his father).

In 2004 he met the architect * Beatrice PALMA * and after a few months she told him: “LET’S SEE IF YOU HAVE THE COURAGE TO DISCUSS YOURSELF”.

He has never lacked courage and he replied: “At the most they will throw me two red tomatoes”.

They organized his first solo exhibition (he had some success – VIRTUAL FOOD) in his architecture studio and still today

It motivated him to continue with his great passion even while working in the bank.

If it had started in the 1970s, perhaps now, they would know it beyond the Italian borders.

La ringrazio per l’attenzione regalatami nella lettura di questa lunga lettera. Rivolgendomi ad un artista, mi tranquillizzava il fatto di sapere di esporre tratti di vita personale ad un essere umano. Credo fortemente nei rapporti tra persone e assolutamente zero in quelli sterili tra persone e cose, fine a se stessi. Il possedere per possedere non mi appartiene : amare un Luogo “traboccante” vita vissuta come fosse ancora abitato da chi l’ha fortemente voluta per la sua Famiglia, è altra cosa!

L’ho scoperta cercando notizie su Suo padre ed ho trovato un Artista nel senso reale del termine, che in modo sincero e del tutto naturale dona agli altri la Sua Personale lettura del mondo. È molto raro, questo!

Non sono su Fb ed ho visto ciò che ho potuto della Sua Arte, anche sul Suo sito.

Cucù-settete è, per me, di una tenerezza infinita, immediata e di una purezza perfetta, chiusa in sé.

La prima è la quinta della serie Autunno (dal Basso) sono quadri viventi; si potrebbe restare per ore col naso all’insù con la sensazione quasi di poter salire e avvicinarsi sempre più a tutto quel blu in alto: è realmente un luogo dove perdersi…

Capita anche a me, di perdermi a guardare le linee che si ripetono in natura; mi è successo anche quest’estate, in Galicia, ero con i piedi “a mollo” non distante dalla riva con un semplice telefonino in mano e… mi sono persa a fotografare (oltre ai miei piedi – motivo ricorrente!) la superficie dell’acqua leggermente increspata da piccole onde che si ripetevano con lo stesso ritmo, quindi anche nello spazio. Ne è risultato un tappeto leggermente ondulato di sabbia attraverso la quasi totale trasparenza dell’acqua. Bello!

Mi piace la sua personale essenzialità nella lettura delle forme che sorprende in natura, restituendole pure e nuove. È un poeta della lettura naturale, in due parole. Riuscire a cogliere col massimo della semplicità la bellezza delle forme che ci circondano e ci includono e leggerle in maniera personale essenziale, poetica (nel senso di immagine immediata) è ciò che ogni essere umano dovrebbe esser capace di fare, semplicemente vivendo, e che son sicura molti altri esseri viventi, a nostra insaputa, facciano per natura. Non credo che la fantasia sia una prerogativa esclusivamente umana!

Sono stata felice di incontrarLa attraverso le Sue immagini… e mi fa anche piacere pensare che siamo anche “un po” parenti, ritrovandomi nel Suo modo di “sentire” e vivere ciò che ci circonda. Le auguro ogni bene per la Sua carriera artistica-vita, perché è soltanto col Cuore che si procede… qualunque sia l’inclinazione, istinto naturale, talento che ci anima e ci fa vivere, ognuno con la propria splendida unicità.

Thank you for your attention in reading this long letter. Turning to an artist, it reassured me that I knew I was exposing traits of personal life to a human being. I strongly believe in relationships between people and absolutely zero in sterile relationships between people and things, an end in themselves.
Owning in order to possess does not belong to me: loving a place “overflowing” life lived as if it were still inhabited by those who strongly wanted it for their family, is something else!

I discovered it by looking for news about your father and I found an artist in the real sense of the term, which in a sincere and completely natural way gives others your personal reading of the world. This is very rare!

I am not on Fb and I saw what I could of your art, even on your site.

Cuckoo-settete is, for me, of infinite, immediate tenderness and perfect purity, closed in on itself.

The first is the fifth of the Autumn series (from below) are living pictures; you could remain upturned for hours with the feeling of being able to go up and get closer and closer to all that blue at the top: it is really a place to get lost …

It also happens to me to lose myself looking at the lines that repeat themselves in nature; it happened to me again this summer, in Galicia, I was with my feet “soaking” not far from the shore with a simple mobile phone in my hand and … I got lost in photographing (besides my feet – a recurring motif!) the surface of the water slightly rippled by small waves that repeated themselves with the same rhythm, therefore also in space. The result was a slightly wavy carpet of sand through the almost total transparency of the water. Beautiful!

I like your personal essentiality in reading the forms that surprise you in nature, giving them back pure and new. He is a poet of natural reading, in two words. Being able to grasp with the utmost simplicity the beauty of the forms that surround us and include us and read them in an essential, poetic (in the sense of immediate image) personal way is what every human being should be able to do, simply by living, and which are sure many other living beings, unbeknownst to us, do by nature. I don’t think fantasy is an exclusively human prerogative!

I was happy to meet you through your images … and I am also pleased to think that we are also “a little” relatives, finding myself in your way of “feeling” and experiencing what surrounds us. I wish you every good for your artistic career-life, because it is only with the Heart that you proceed … whatever the inclination, natural instinct, talent that animates us and makes us live, each with its own splendid uniqueness.

The theme of water is then at the center of the H2O exhibition and moments of light at the Civic Museum of Zoology, designed with the aim of highlighting the importance of this element in its most current and daily meaning, through a selection of shots of photographers of the “18% Gray” association.

Gush of * PIT BULL … *

The pitbull barks menacingly from the darkness, but it is a dog dough,
he does not bite, he is afraid of us. His master is Ugo Maria Cionfrini,

WE HAVE HOSPITAL-PHOTOGRAPHY: LIFE PUSHES

My friend Beppe Zezza – in fact he is my mother’s friend, a matter of registry – is my esteem. He enrolled me among the recipients of the Bulbul’s newsletter and are months that “tamps” asking me to write an article describing my artistic inspiration. “The Light Bulb” – he says, and I must recognize it with reason – always dedicates a space to art and is therefore a suitable place. “

But talking about oneself is difficult for an artist: what drives him is an “inner fire” but talking to him in the tones he “feels” inevitably rises to appear “over the lines”!

For friendship with Beppe, I try.

Who I am? A photographer. A photographer is curious. For this innate curiosity, when free from the (harsh) commitments that life imposes for the necessity of bringing together bread and something else, I have always turned with the Reflex to fix environments, colors, characters that impressed my imagination.

One day I found myself in front of a fountain and I began to look at the water bubble and there was a “strange” fact: my attention was attracted to the colors that played around To him and I felt like a voice, coming from the “same” he called me. Then I took the Reflex, mounted the tripod and started shooting. The zampillo was no more inert matter but a living creature that took new and fantastic aspects from time to time. Awesome and … exciting thing.

Photographic technology has made it possible to translate the emotions I have tried in an “objective” way and allowed me to share and convey them. Great is my satisfaction when, in the numerous exhibitions in which I have exposed the best of my shots, I see in the eyes of the visitors the same amazement I felt and try.

My hope (or illusion?) Is that the attitude of curiosity regarding the life and its hidden aspects that distinguishes me and that is the soul of my work can be transfigured in those who look at them.

Some notes that visitors have attached to exhibitions in sign-books may serve as an example: “I have found what your eye has seen and reinterpreted for those who do not see!” “In the millennium of a second is the” Form “of nature”. “Only a very careful eye is able to perceive what the common eye can not even see.”

The water has always competed in various ways in the creation of suggestive plastic shapes, modeling the rock with its slow flowing or driping drop after drop to make it assume anthropomorphic forms: but water also contributed to the success of some of the most Stunning creations of the Baroque age, as evidenced by the scenic fountains conceived by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and its eighteenth-century epigones for some of the most beautiful squares in Rome.

Can you imagine the Fountain of the Four Rivers, that of the Triton or, finally, the Trevi Fountain, without water intervening with its sound and its bright effects to make the images sculpted in marble so amazing? Variably modulated thanks to the ability of hydraulic pipes directed by a skilled director, water is made to form large fans that overlap the plastic images modeled by the Bernini or create thin bushes that, bathed in bathtub tub, make it bright and vibrant The sculptural dynamics created by the artist: neither the musical component produced by the water, whose sounds, similar to those generated by an instrument, will be underestimated, creating an auditory suggestion that enhances the theatricality of sculptural apparatus. Ever accustomed to the careful consideration of the city in which he studied, Ugo Maria Cionfrini has set in some memorable photographic images the discharge of water from the jet of a Roman fountain: as he himself admits, it is always the same fountain as If the “artistic potential” of the water can only be expressed in that place, where seemingly imponderable aspects, such as the force of the jet or the movement produced by the air, can produce situations that are impossible elsewhere.

Fixing for a long time with the aim of releasing liquid from the jet, Cionfrini has been able to stop liquid shapes that recall animals and recognizable figures: dogs, such as carlino, terranova, poodle and pitt-bull or birds like germano or More exotic forms such as those of the elephant and the bear, come to mind by carefully watching the arrangement of water that seems to correspond to a precise design born of the mind of a genial creator. With his photographs, Cionfrini fixes images that disappear within a moment, so that they can capture in the water zoomorphic or anthropomorphic shapes that exist only if they are photographed: so is photography to eternate the solutions Plastics otherwise lost, overwhelmed by the liquidity of the generating matter and the force of gravity.
